William Tell's Chapel on Lake Lucerne in the Canton of Uri beneath the Axenberg Cliffs, Switzerland. Originally accessioned into the collection in 1978 as 'Italian Lake View'. Several other versions of this view are known. The British Museum holds 'Lake of Lucerne with the chapel of William Tell amid trees on the shore, a boat with canopy on the water, a storm approaching' (1816), watercolour touched with bodycolour, by Johann Jacob Wetzel (1781–1834) [1885,1114.99]; 'La Chapelle de Guillaume Tell au lac des IV Cantons' (1815–1830), aquatint after Wetzel, published by Johann Rudolf Dickenmann [1885,1114.100]; 'Chapelle de Guillaume Tell au lac des IV Cantons' (1839–1883), aquatint by Heinrich Siegfried, after 'Walliser' [1958,0712.2595], and 'Chapelle de Gln.
