Painted in the early 18th century, this shows a house that still stands, but has been altered so much that it is barely recognisable

Images of Bath before the city’s Georgian heyday are rare. This picture was painted at around the same time that John Wood was beginning work on Queen Square, the first phase of his building plan for the city. Buildings like Ladymead House were about to become a rarity in fashionable, modern Bath.
