William S. Anderson attended the Glasgow School of Art from 1897–1901 and here he was to meet his future wife and fellow artist Daisy McGlashan. The couple married in 1909 and moved to Hexham in Northumberland where this late work was painted.

This painting was lost in the fire in The Mackintosh Building at The Glasgow School of Art on 23rd May 2014.
