A figure of a knight which is sat atop the battlement. The head of the figure is missing and there is a belt around his waist on which a weapon hangs, possibly a sword. His right arm from just above his elbow is missing, although it appears it was outstretched, and his left arm holds a shield. It is a small mutilated effigy in chain armour, with a surcoat, found near the site of the innermost of the walls of the abbey, between the hospitium and the river. It has stood, no doubt, on the outside of a gateway, upon the battlement, as may still be seen at Alnwick Castle.
