Construction of Kinloch Castle commenced in the summer of 1897 and was completed in early 1901. On a raised beach, facing east to the mainland, the castle was built as a hunting lodge for 30 year-old George Bullough. Brought up in an engineering environment and with innovative gadgets appearing on the market, Bullough incorporated central heating in addition to coal fires, air conditioning, double glazing, a telephone system and DC electric power from a hydro generator with battery back-up. The castle also had four bath shower cabinets, three still exist, each with seven different settings.
