Ornate drinking fountain for humans and animals in Renaissance style, commemorating Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The base is grey granite with granite balls at each corner. There were originally also lions head gargoyles at each corner through which water passed through into the lower troughs. The fountain is surmounted by a cornice and canopy of Portland stone, with voluted Ionic columns supporting the balustraded canopy. The central fountain is made of red granite. The original centrepiece, a granite statue of a boy, has been removed. The fountain was praised for allowing easy access to carters – as it was set back from the road it allowed horses to drink from the fountain without causing obstruction to the road. The ample provision of taps allowed three horses, three dogs and two men to drink at the same time.
