John Sayers Walmsley was the son of C. H. and M. M. Walmsley. He was born in Nairobi in 1922. This portrait was painted at The Stell during one of the family's 'home leave' visits to Britain. 'It is my wish that this painting be donated to Kirkcudbright Museum', J. S. Walmsley.
