The subject was a Scottish naturalist, author, and early advocate of preservation of wilderness in the United States. John Muir, also known as 'John of the Mountains' and 'Father of the National Parks', was adopted by East Lothian Council as 'Man of the Millennium' in celebration of the year 2000.
