John King Day was born near Ipoh, Malaysia, son of Harold Duncan Day and Muriel, née King. He married Mary Elizabeth (daughter of Tom Stinton, Assistant Master, Elizabeth College, 1912–1914) and was Principal of Elizabeth College from 1958 to 1971.
