John Joule, the son of Francis and Mary Joule, was born in Youlgreave, Derbyshire. He married Mary Smith of Stafford on 25 Apr 1803 and died at Meaford Old Hall, Meaford, near Stone on 2 May 1858. John Joule took over his father's brewing business in Stone in 1813, when it was renamed John Joule & Sons.
