John Blakeman, MA, MSc, was Principal of the Northampton College of Technology from 1911 until his retirement due to ill health in 1941. This portrait, commissioned to commemorate his silver jubilee as Principal in 1936, was painted by his colleague Lewis Duckett, who was Principal of the Northampton School of Art from 1925–1937.
