This bust of the philosopher, jurist and reformer Jeremy Bentham at the University of London is its only marble bust of a figure not directly connected during his lifetime with the university. It indicates Bentham's intellectual importance for the university, which also had a statue of Bentham on its building in Burlington House, made in 1870, to represent the Faculty of Law. The bust was one of the models for the wax head on the auto-icon of Bentham in the south cloisters of University College London. It is signed and is on a marble plinth.
