Jane Littleton married John Eggington of Rodbaston Hall on 3rd February 1708 in Stafford. This portrait and that of Jane Littleton’s husband John Eggington are likely to have been painted as a pair, probably around the date of their marriage. Jane was the daughter of Sir Edward Littleton of Pillaton Hall, Staffordshire. The back of the portrait notes that the Littletons were ancestors of Clement Mansfield Ingleby on his mother’s side.
