This is a left side, half-length portrait of Jane Bellot (née Hale), William Bellot's mother, here as an elderly woman seated in wooden armchair. She has brown hair in ringlets surrounding her forehead, under a white cap trimmed with frills and ribbon bows tied under chin. She is wearing a black silk dress, with long sleeves ruched at the upper arm. The folded draping over her shoulders is edged with fringe, and a jet brooch is fastened at her white handkerchief neck. The painting is in a gilt frame decorated with moulding at the corners.
