A shadowy domestic interior with a tiled floor and table in the centre foreground. Around the table are three figures: a woman seated in the centre with her back to the viewer, a man to the left who is smoking a long clay pipe, and, to the right, a woman standing with a bottle in her outstretched hand. The table is covered with an oriental carpet. On it is a white cloth and a bowl of fruit. There is an ornate fireplace to the left with marble pillars and acanthus capitals. Above the fireplace is a painting. The background is in shadow except for an ornate brass chandelier suspended from the ceiling above the table, and an open doorway on the far right, leading through to a brightly lit room and a garden beyond.
