The subject refers to the Gloup Disaster of 1881, in which a number of sixareens (large open boats) were fishing the far haaf (deep sea 40 miles off shore), when a sudden July storm off the north coast of Yell, Shetland, caused the loss of 10 boats and 58 lives.
