This icon appears to be a hybrid between the Virgin of the Passion (denoted by the angels holding implements of the Passion) and the Virgin Eleousa (Virgin of Tenderness), with the cheeks of the Virgin and Child touching each other. The latter does not occur in the standard Virgin of the Passion type, while angels with implements of the passion do not occur with the standard Virgin Eleousa (also Eleusa) type.
