Oscar Murillo's practice spans painting, installation, video and performance, reflecting on labour, migration, and cultural identity. Born in La Paila, Colombia, and now based in London, Murillo draws on his personal experiences and the socio-political dynamics of displacement, marginalisation and community. His works often incorporate industrial materials, found objects and performative elements, inviting audiences to consider the interconnectedness of global economies, cultural histories, and personal narratives. Notable examples include his ongoing project 'Frequencies', initiated in 2013, where he collaborates with schools worldwide. In this project, pieces of raw canvas are affixed to students' desks, inviting them to draw, write, and make marks over time.
