Paul Fitzgerald was commissioned by the University to paint the portrait of HRH the Duke of Kent. It was commissioned to be hung in the entrance foyer of an iconic building, named the Duke of Kent building after the Chancellor of the University. No other Australian portrait artist can have painted so many distinguished personalities. Much admired by the Royal family, he has painted three portraits of the Queen, amongst them the Official Royal Jubilee Portrait, two of Prince Philip and two of Prince Charles. Other notable commissions include; Pope John XXIII and King Hisamuddin of Malaysia, Prince and Princess Von Baden of Germany and many more. Fitzgerald is a Member of the Order of Australian and a Knight of Malta. He founded the Australian Guild of Realist Artists and was President for 7 years.
