David R. Newton was born in Birmingham in 1967. He studied at Bournville College of Art, Nottingham Trent Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art. His work is held in public and private collections, exhibiting with RCA contemporaries including Turner Prize-winner Chris Ofili, and Tim Noble and Sue Webster. Newton’s work has also been exhibited alongside that of Humphrey Ocean, Tracey Emin, Cathy Lomax and Malcolm Garrett.
During his studies at the Royal College of Art, Newton was appointed Artist in Residence at the Science Museum, London. Commissioned to create a large-scale painting as part of the Science Museum's exhibition on nanotechnology, Newton created a virtual ‘Nano Landscape’, incorporating the poetry of William Blake and Lakovus Brown, and his own mantra 'Liberate the Atom'.
