This 20th-century oil, in a post-impressionist style, depicts High Withens, the site many believe to have been the setting for the Earnshaws' house, Wuthering Heights, in Emily Brontë's novel of the same name. Also known as 'Top Withens' or 'Withins', this now-ruined farmhouse lies on the Pennine Way, and was last inhabited in 1926.
