This head and shoulders portrait believed to be of Henry Thompson MP and Lord Mayor of York in 1699. He is wearing red alderman robes, a lace cravat, the distinctive Lord Mayor of York’s chain of office, and a full-length wig of brown curly hair. The eldest son of Sir Henry Thompson, Governor of the Company from 1667 to 1672 (see also artwork YORMA 157). He inherited his father's estate of Escrick in 1683.
