This charming informal portrait is of Henrietta Ames as a young girl. Desanges is known to have painted society ladies and children, but his portraits are now rare. The painting is one of a group of five portraits transferred in 1978 to English Heritage by descendants of the Cadogan and Ames family of Brinkburn Priory. The Manor House where they once hung is no longer furnished, and all the Ames portraits are in store.
