The original is a polychromed sculpture in terracotta in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence. This copy is intended to look as though it were made of wood. There are illusionistic splits and woodworm holes in the surface. The original does not have these features. There are also intentional flaws and damage included in the plasterwork. The copy is hollow and has a base of chipboard nailed to the underside.
