A painting showing coal stocks beneath the conveyors at Hatfield Colliery. Janet Buckle studied at the Slade School of Art from 1965–1969. Although Buckle has no direct association with the coal industry she has always felt that it was impossible not to be aware its impact on the surrounding Yorkshire landscape. Like many artists who have chosen to paint mining scenes, Buckle does not see the pit landscape only in shades of grey and black, but notices how vivid other colours appear amongst industrial landscapes. Her work is often dominated by the use of bright yellows, blues and reds. Much of her work is also produced on a large scale to echo the drama and size of the collieries themselves.
