A woodland scene with figures. In the clearing of a wood is a family of gypsies. On the left is the father, dressed in a grey coat, who sleeps beneath a tree. Next to him lies a white and brown spaniel. In the centre of the picture is the mother, her back to us, in a red cape, white cap and green dress. Behind her is a boy in a torn coat and trousers. On the mother's knee leans a young girl, in a white cap and pinafore, and a blue dress. An overturned earthenware jug lies in the grass on the right.
