Edward Harrison (1674–1732) held the position of Governor at Fort St George in Madras, India from 11th July 1711 to 8th January 1717. On his return to England he was elected Member of Parliament for Hertford, and later left this position to become Postmaster General in 1725. This portrait was painted by Godfrey Kneller (1646–1723) after Harrison's return to England, along with a portrait of his wife 'Mrs Harrison', which is now in a private collection.
