A painting of the Guernsey built, fully-rigged ship the 'Golden Spur' (flying Chinese flag for protection), with number 246 on-top flag. The 'Golden Spur' was designed for the China tea trade. Built in 1864 it was Guernsey’s largest sailing ship. It was also the last sailing ship built in Guernsey at Ogiers' shipyard. The small flag with Chinese writing was presented to Captain Farrell by a wealthy Chinese gentleman, for rescuing his family at sea. This flag enabled him to sail freely in any Chinese waters.
