Originally thought to have been a racing trophy commissioned for Warwick Races, this statuette was donated to Coventry City Council around 1960. A better-known version, unquestionably inspired by the earlier Coventry sculpture, exists in the Royal Collection, a birthday gift from Queen Victoria to Prince Albert in 1857. An elaborate plinth (as with the version in the Royal Collection) would have accompanied the statuette but has been removed and become separated at some point in its history.
