A very tall square plan pillar on a three-stepped base, topped with the subject dressed in ceremonial military uniform, a sheathed sword in his right hand, standing on a circular plinth, and each face of the pillar with five recesses with inscriptions. The pedestal bears an inscribed plaque and lettering on the front and back faces, and on the right face a relief of military standards with a shield and on the left face a relief of several Masonic symbols.

inscribed on the plaque on the front of the pedestal: ROBERT ROLLO GILLESPIE. / MAJOR-GENERAL, AND KNIGHT COMMANDER OF THE MOST / HONORABLE MILITARY ORDER OF THE BATH. / BORN AT COMBER.
