Sir Geoffrey Organe was one of the most widely known and respected anaesthetists of his generation. He was born on Christmas Day in 1908 in Madras, India. He was educated at Taunton School and at Christ's College, Cambridge, and Westminster Medical School. In 1938 he was appointed the first registrar in anaesthetics at Westminster. After a period in general practice he was elected to the consultant staff of his hospital and spent the rest of his professional life there, becoming the Foundation Professor in Anaesthetics at Westminster Medical School.
