Neil Methven Ritchie joined The Black Watch as Second Lieutenant in 1914. He was wounded at Loos on 26th September 1915 and by the end of the First World War was promoted to Captain. During the Second World War Ritchie had risen to the rank of Commander 51st Highland Davison as T/Major-General, where he commanded The Black Watch as part of the Division. Throughout the war he commanded various Divisions and Corps, and his career continued until he became Colonel of The Black Watch in 1950. He retired in 1951 to live in Canada, where he died in 1983.
