The artist painted this view of Friedberg in the district of Hessen, Germany, from the neighbouring town of Bad Nauheim – a spa town known for its thermal springs. He painted it whilst staying there for health treatment from 2nd August to 16th September 1903. Howard’s wife, Rosalind, also made several trips to Nauheimfor health treatment.
