This painting by a local artist depicts the sitter after he had become Director of Salisbury Museum in 1913. He appears to be shown seated in his study or office holding a worked flint object, possibly a piercer, which would have been used to gouge holes in fabric. Behind him are more prehistoric flints and books, including two written by Stevens himself.
