The statue depicts Sir Francis Russell as an agriculturalist (a member of the first Board of Agriculture) in Roman attire, with one hand on a plough, corn ears in the other and sheep at his feet. He is surrounded by groups of allegorical figures connected with agriculture with four cherubs representing spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The statue is on a pedestal with a stepped base. He looks out over the land he developed towards Bloomsbury Square.
