Pendant to P31. The sisters Frances (1751–1820) and Elizabeth Seymour-Conway (1754–1825) were the seventh and eighth children and fourth and fifth daughters respectively of Francis Seymour-Conway, Earl of Hertford (created 1st Marquess of Hertford in 1793) and his wife Lady Isabella Fitzroy (daughter of the 2nd Duke of Grafton). Like her sister, Frances is here depicted in a stock half-length pose, which recurs in other portraits by the artist. Lady Lincoln’s pensive pose, together with her black gown, recalls her widowed status.
