E & J Fountain was just one of three mills in Uxbridge, the other two were King’s Mill and Fray’s Mill. Since the mid-eighteenth century it has stood on the old Uxbridge High Street at the Fray’s River. In 1914, the old water wheels were replaced by a steam engine and two water turbines. Thousands of tons of wheat were ground there each year. In 1985 the disused mill became a Youth Centre, a Link Advisory Unit and a Substance Abuse Centre.
