This still life depicts a sumptuous colourful display of flowers and fruit, including green and purple grapes, pomegranates, pears, plums, apples and redcurrants, chrysanthemums, poppies, roses, jonquils, blue ornamental tulips and peonies. Not all of these flowers bloom at the same time of year so it is highly likely that van Os relied upon watercolour studies he painted in different seasons There are also insects visible in the painting, including a butterfly and several flies including one on the decaying pear. The highly polished surface texture and bright colourful tones are typical of van Os' work.
