Florentia Wood, known as Flora, came from Reynoldston on the Gower from a once wealthy family who were lawyers to the second Lord Bute.

Flora married William Thompson Crawshay, the eldest son of Robert and Rose Mary in a splendid wedding in 1870. They first lived at Vaynor House where this picture was displayed. They moved to Cyfarthfa Castle in 1879 when Robert died but were not happy. They left in 1888 for better times in Caversham Park, the great Crawshay family home in Berkshire.

Flora was awarded an OBE for her services as Commandant of the St Anne’s Hall Auxiliary War Hospital in Caversham. She converted to Catholicism in 1896 and her husband converted on his deathbed. They had no children.
