In 2004, The All England Lawn Tennis Club commissioned sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley to produce bronze busts of the five former Ladies’ Singles British Champions, which would be featured outside Centre Court, nestled amongst the ivy. Here, is the bust of Ann Jones, who won the Wimbledon singles title in 1969 at the age of 30. She was only the fourth British woman to triumph in the singles since the First World War. The others were Kitty Godfree McKane, Dorothy Round, and Angela Mortimer. Interestingly, Ann was the first left-handed woman to win a singles title at The Championships. She was present for the unveiling of the sculpture in April 2004.
