'Five AM' probably depicts art students or models at the painting school which Procter ran with his friend, Harold Harvey, between 1920 and around 1928, in a large studio near the old harbour in Newlyn. The girl on the right, wearing her blonde hair long, rather than fashionably bobbed like her companions, bears a resemblance to Eileen Mayo, the London model who sat for both Laura Knight and Dod Procter in the 1920s.
