Wilfred Stanley Haines was a fireman and also a keen artist. He was active in Bath during the 1942 Blitz and produced this striking image of the city ablaze after a German bombing raid.

Sadly, Haines was killed by a buzz bomb during the War. He had painted another graphic depiction of bomb damage that same day. That painting was bought for the Nation and is in the Collection at the Imperial War Museum.
