Starting with a series of pale washes on the canvas, Pinkarchevski builds and creates textures using a limited palette of blue, grey and white. Once a textured surface has been established she uses a palette knife to add and subtract layers of paint, whilst introducing stronger colours. The horizon line is often the dominant feature of her landscapes, occasionally broken by trees and foliage. Her choice of colours is often seasonally inspired. For this work, the harsh contrast between the red hues and the wintery greys creates a vivid impression of a dramatic imaginary landscape.
