The composer Giardini is depicted full-length, facing forwards while seated on a chair at a harpsichord, with music open on the stand and a violin on top of the lid. He is wearing a blue-grey coat and matching breeches, with white neck tie, cuffs and stockings, and buckled shoes; a wig on his head. To his right is a girl in a pink dress and in front of the harpsichord another girl in a yellow dress; seated on the carpet in front of him is a young boy. Giardini's right hand is extended with index finger pointing up and left hand poised above the keyboard as if playing a chord.
