The Fairey Flycatcher biplane was a standard first-line fighter aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm from 1923 to 1934. It was rugged, comfortable to fly, had superb aerobatic ability and was easy to land on an aircraft carrier. It served in all the aircraft carriers of its time, and Flycatcher S1287 served on HMS 'Glorious'. This painting, however, depicts a replica S1287 in flight circa 1980, flown by John Fairey, son of the founder of the Fairey Aviation Company.
