Ernest Greenhill brought his family from Liverpool to Glasgow in 1913. He became an active politician in the Glasgow Corporation where he served as City Treasurer. A member of Garnethill Hebrew Congregation, he was also involved in the Glasgow Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and chairman of the Scottish Council of the Workers Educational Association. He was created Baron Greenhill of Townhead in 1950.
