The title 'Ermete Trismegisto' can be translated as Hermes Trismegistus, who was a Hellenistic period figure that originated as a combination of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. The writings of Trismegistus combined a knowledge of both the material and the spiritual world, highlighting Perucchini’s deep interest in the meeting of cultures and offering us a constellation of cultural, temporal, and artistic references to consider. Perucchini is an Italian artist of Ethiopian heritage based in Milan. His artistic research focuses on the history of art, images of various cultures, and connections between different cultures. His works often interrupt art historical tropes by inserting black figures into historically-inspired oeuvres.
