A life-size, 11 ton Asian elephant, chosen as a direct connection to many Commonwealth countries in South Asia and Africa where Glasgow-built trains were deployed and where the elephant is seen as both a form of transport and an animal of symbolic power. It was cast from redundant and scrap locomotive parts made in Govan and sourced from India and South Africa. Hunter began by making a life-size model in clay which was then cast in resin at House for an Art Lover during the commonwealth games of 2014. The final sculpture was cast in Yorkshire and transported to the site of the famous 1938 British Empire Exhibition in Bellahouston Park. Hunter said, 'It’s a celebration of our city’s strength and contribution to industrial and cultural developments across the Commonwealth and a reminder of the very successful Commonwealth Games the city hosted in 2014'.
