This is a copy of a Guido Reni 'Ecce Homo' such as the one in the Louvre, dated 1639–1640. The Ecce Homo is a type of devotional image intended for private contemplation and identification with Christ's suffering during the Passion. This composition was a staple in religious imagery and Guido Reni repeated it many times.
