Rae’s work attempts to capture movement within the organics of natural flow. Her subject matter was rotting seaweed caught in the tide. She began by painting heavily to capture its decay. There is often more beauty in the decayed than the complete; it is through decay that different layers are taken away (and often more layers are added on). Rae tried to capture this process through layering and experimentation with acrylics and oils; this aroused her curiosity about discovery. In this context, she was able to admire a gradual state of decay, and tried to capture its unique beauty; the colours giving much excitement as she aims to capture the life still showing through.
